Packaging - Tsutsumi
The Japanese way of gift wrapping
| |
Hereby I propose a variation of the Japanese art of gift wrapping (Tsutsumi) that has never been practiced in this context, to shake up this rusty edifice of habits and rules. The goal is to wrap a gift in a casual way, as if barely any attention is given to the packaging at all. Notice this casual packaging is not for sloppy persons or a quick job, because the intention is still, and the effort is made, to create a stylish result that can be appreciated by the receiver.

This drastic, but at the same time subtle approach of gift-wrapping can potentially unleash uncountable original creations, with a broad choice of materials and styles. For example you can re-use packaging that would be thrown away otherwise, modify or combine it with uncommon materials, or use various types of tape for binding, at the same time serving as accents.
