Panels on buildings
Panels fitted to buildings as style-element

I don't know much about architecture, but in one little town I found three different buildings with panels on their facade. So, I guess it is (was) a trend, or it is a local effect because folks like the effect and the same architect is hired.
  
1. Fire escape (several identical buildings).
  
2. Another fire escape.
  
3. Apartment building with shops on ground floor.
