A building with a Moiré Pattern
A real life Moiré Pattern discovered in a building

A well known effect to photographers is the Moiré Pattern; when a regular pattern of some sort interferes with the grid of pixels in the sensor of a digital camera. The building shown here has panels with grids that are placed behind each other, nicely demonstrating the effect. So, in this case it has nothing to do with sensors, it is a natural phenomenon that can be observed with the naked eye.

The building has a separate facade of panels. The fire escape to the right is also built from the same panels, they only have a different color.

2

The panels in the facade and in the fire escape have grids (actually a regular pattern of small holes), they are showing a Moiré Pattern due to optical interference.

A more fine pattern appears when you come close.
