Curves and bricks
An all around view of a mixed use apartment complex

A series of photos was shot from this apartment complex to get a complete picture all around. In the figure below a top view of the building (reconstructed from the photos) with the photo numbers and the camera positions.

The complex has three main buildings A, B and C, with 76 apartments in total. On ground level is a supermarket with an entrance below B. It has a warehouse D at the backside which is only one floor high. On the front side of the building is an elevated sidewalk E.

Photos were taken walking clockwise around the building starting at 1.

The galleries on the front-side of buildings A and C have randomly mixed narrow and wide openings which gives it a lively appearance. The backside is asymmetric but for the rest completely regular.

A subtle detail is the white stripe on the inside of the roof, on the position where the facade should end (also above the balconies on the backside). With this optical trick the roof is better connected to the building when empty space is below it.

Buildings A and C are indented at the ends, which gives variation and an interesting roof line. Some photos were taken there too.

Most photos shown here were shot from the back side, because that was the sunny side. The front of the building actually never sees the sun (the lighting on the galleries is always on, photo 1, 2) so most of those pictures didn't have the right atmosphere to fit in this series.
