At night
An attempt to take some night pictures

In my first serious attempt to get into night photography the camera was prepared by closing the aperture only 1/3 stop, adjusting exposure compensation (-2 EV), and cranking up ISO to 800 (+2 stops from usually 200), gambling that the almighty Shake Reduction mechanism would do the rest. That didn't end up too well, however, because 80% of my pictures were blurred. So only two reasonably sharp photos are shown here.

1
Street lighting, traffic lights, and fluorescent lamps in harmony (1/13 s).

2
Entrance of Albert Heijn supermarket crowded with bicycles from people too lazy to put them in the stands (1/40 s).

These are straight out of the camera and only cropped to square. Next time I'll use a shorter lens, 3200 ISO, and hold my breath when pressing the shutter button.

A Black/White version was also made from the first photo. The shadows, midtones and highlights are enhanced in the same amount to better bring out details of the buildings and trees.

3
Illuminated shops at crossing.
